I began this Throwback Thursday meme as a way to share some of my old favorites as well as sharing books that I want to read that were published over a year ago. You know, the ones waiting patiently on my TBR list while I continue to pile more titles on top of them:)! I like that these older books are usually much easier than new releases to get a hold of at libraries and elsewhere. If you have your own Throwback Thursday recommendation feel free to jump on board, you’re welcome to use my pic as well. If you’d just link back to me I’d so appreciate it

My Pick this week is:

Published April 2012 by G.P.Putnam Son

My Rating: 4 Stars

Daughter of a controlling mother, Elizabeth finally let loose one night, drinking at a nightclub and allowing a strange man’s seductive Russian accent lure her to a house on Lake Shore Drive. The events that followed changed her life forever.

Twelve years later, the woman known as Abigail Lowery lives on the outskirts of a small town in the Ozarks. A freelance programmer, she designs sophisticated security systems — and supplements her own security with a fierce dog and an assortment of firearms. She keeps to herself, saying little, revealing nothing. But Abigail’s reserve only intrigues police chief Brooks Gleason. Her logical mind, her secretive nature, and her unromantic viewpoints leave him fascinated but frustrated. He suspects that Abigail needs protection from something — and that her elaborate defenses hide a story that must be revealed

I can’t believe I haven’t featured Nora Roberts on TBT yet! Up until a few books ago, I had read every standalone she released and at one point (several years ago & pre-Sharon Bolton) I would’ve said she was my favorite author. I really enjoyed her unique, strong female protagonist in this story as well as the mystery. I would’ve almost called this more “thriller like” than her others as it has more fast paced tension than her other books. If you’re looking for a well rounded mystery with some romance thrown in than this book is for you!

Have you read this one or think you’d like to add it to your TBR? I’d love to hear from you

Happy Reading!

  1. I was going to comment about how I can only take romance in books in small doses and couldn’t see adding this to my TBR, when lo and behold this one and The Search have been on there since 07/04/2014. Thank you, Renee 🙂

  2. I recently bought this for my Kindle!! I have loved some of her previous books – I love a good suspense with romance, too. Glad to see you enjoyed it!

  3. I’ve never read any of her books. There are too many books in the world! I think I may organise a protest march! I laughed at the bit in the blurb about the seductive Russian accent – I’m currently listening to the audiobook version of The Tsar of Love and Techno and one of the narrators has a lovely Russian accent – I’ve fallen totally in love with him. Frankly he could read me the instructions on a piece of self-assembly furniture and I’d happily listen… 😉

  4. I always find it difficult to mix mystery and romance, because romance and I are not chummy, haha, but I’m glad the author makes it work 🙂 I’ve seen her name around but have never read anything from her!

  5. “The events that followed changed her life forever.” I NEED TO KNOW haha I haven’t read any Nora ROberts because I always thought she wrote more “romance” than mystery? Glad to know that isn’t true. She has many books right? I always see her around !

    1. I would agree with you totally up until about 4 years ago when I just couldn’t get through her books anymore. To me, they lost the spark she used to have…I may be in the minority feeling that way though
