5 on Friday: 5 Things I’m Loving Lately

Welcome to 5 on Friday, a little list of things I’m enjoying lately.  I got this idea from Tim Ferris who sends out his 5 Bullet Friday posts to all his email subscribers and Laura Tremaine’s Secret Posts. If you’re interested you can check out Tim’s website at Tim.blog and Laura’s at 10thingstotellyou.com . I thought it would be fun to do a short and simple posts of things I’m enjoying lately. Every week you’ll find different content…could be books I’m reading, movies, tv, recipes, quotes, articles, household items etc….anything I’m enjoying to pass along in the hope that you might also find something you’d like.

Book Review That Has Me Wanting to Read a Book That Wasn’t on My Radar
Susie at NovelVisits Review of Waiting for Eden  I challenge you to read Susie’s review of this book and not add it to your tbr as well. This sounds like such a unique story

This Gem of Advice (from Bookrioter Abby Hargreaves) is Going to Change My Reading Life!
How to Keep Library Ebooks Longer (and the drawbacks)  I had no idea there was a library hack that enables us to keep our ebooks longer. I needed this info! I read almost exclusively on my kindle and I’ve scrambled one too many times to finish a book at the last minute before it vanishes into Overdrive

Article I Enjoyed from NBCNews.com (and a term I’d never heard of but practice regularly)
How the Simple Act of Nature Helps You Destress I walk in the woods just about everyday, year round, so I can relate to this article. I think walking in the woods is one of the most relaxing things I do. I’ll take nature, even in freezing cold whether, over the gym any day.

Movie That Will Be My Favorite of the Year
A Star is Born  I can’t say enough about how fantastic this movie was! You guys, LADY GAGA, wow. That’s all I’ll say and Bradley Cooper was amazing. Go see it. Bring Tissues.

Have A Great Weekend!

  1. I visited the Bookriot to find out how to keep my books longer. I have several devices so not sure if it would work, but I am going to give it a try next time I only need another day. Thanks for sharing this.

  2. I put my device on airplane mode to keep my books a little longer if needed. The library gets there book back and it will stay on my device until I turn the airplane mode back off. I tried this for audiobooks from the library and it does not work lol.
So exited to see A Star is Born! I’m so glad you love it!!

    1. I’m really wondering how I didn’t know about this airplane mode hack for keeping books longer! I’m glad to hear it works for you Tina. Enjoy a Star is Born, it’s SO good!!

  3. Renee, yep Waiting for Eden is on my tbr after hearing Annie of From the Front Porch talk about it and then seeing Susie’s review!

I figured out to turn off the airplane mode on my kindle after I had my first book disappear. I try to not take advantage of it because I do feel a little guilty. I thought it held others up because there are wait lists for e-books. But maybe I’m wrong? If I’m close to done I’ll keep it an extra day or two.

You are lucky to have woods to walk in every day. I’d take just about anything vs the gym! I’m looking forward to walks and sunsets on the beach this week 🙂

I love these posts, thanks for the movie and IG recommendations!

    1. Thanks Jan! I had no idea about airplane mode! It says in the article that others aren’t held up waiting for the book so that’s good news, I’d feel bad doing that if it was the case. Do you have local parks? That’s where I walk, they made trails throughout and it’s so nice…minus the bugs this summer

      1. Renee, I just did a search on this issue and it’s true, it doesn’t impact other readers. The wait list is artificial because they are expected by publishers to only have x amount checked out. Yay, I had no idea and now I have no guilt! Thanks!

Also, I signed up for a bookshelf book subscription and saw on IG last night that Annie’s book this month is Waiting for Eden. It will be waiting for me next week when I get home 😊

  4. I hear you about Susie! I added Eden to my library holds as I was reading her review.

So glad to hear about A Star is Born. I’m visiting my mother at the end of the month and we love going to the movies so I’ll suggest it. Thank you!

  5. I knew of the library hack from day one and yes, it has one major drawback but if you time it right and manage your collection well, it’s not an issue.

  6. Love the airplane mode trick! I’m currently reading a library hard copy of Little Fires Everywhere but just got an auto hold from overdrive. I saw A Star is Born today…loved it! And did need a tissue.
